Horn “Gives Up”

Tomek got to the neighborhood of Horn in December. He hid in a bay on anchor 10 miles north of the cape and waited for the right “weather window.” In the waiting room before Horn, the sailor decided that situation was favorable to try and conquer the cape. The first offense turned out to be successful. In the beginning of January the wind weakened, the anchor went up and….Horn “gave up.” Tomasz Lewandowski is the first Polish citizen and the sixth sailor in the world who has successfully managed this trick….and survived. This is a huge success for the Polish sailor. His great predecessors are: Sir Chay Blyth (1971), Mike Golding (1994), Philippe Monnet (1989), Jean Luc Van Den Heede (2004) and Dee Caffari (2006) the only woman in the group. His cruise around the world is expected to come to an end in March of this year.

March  6th 2007 at 12:28 (GMT-08:00) Tomek starts his trip around the world single-handed and without stopover from East to West. It is a circumnavigation of the world "the wrong way round",  against the prevailing winds for the majority of the voyage... through the Cape  Horn and  Cape of  Good Hope... to fulfill his dreams....
